POCSO Case on Ekta Kapoor and Her Mother: Mumbai Police Issue Notice to Appear for Questioning on Thursday

Clearing the allegations, which involved inappropriate scenes featuring minors in the ALT Balaji web series ‘Gandi Baat’, Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, have addressed the controversy surrounding them. Furthermore, in response, a statement was issued by ALT Balaji, thus clarifying the involvement of the two producers, and denying any violations of the law.

According to the statement, the platform’s daily operation doesn’t involve Ekta Kapoor & Shobha Kapoor. The management team, of ALT Balaji, including the content strategy, is handled by separate teams. Dismissing the claims of featuring minors as incorrect, the operation, in full compliance with laws, including the POCSO Act, was emphasized by the company. Furthermore, expressing faith in the judicial system, and full cooperation with the ongoing investigation is expressed by ALT Balaji. 

Details about the case

The Controversy began following a complaint alleging that the sixth season of ‘Gandi Baat’, streamed between February and April 2021, contained objectionable scenes involving minors. Prompting an FIR under the POCSO Act against the streaming service and its producers, the controversial episode is no longer available on the platform.

Asked to re-appear on Thrusday, October 24, 2024, Ekta Kapoor & Shobha Kapoor were previously summoned by the Mumbai Police, on October 22, 2024. During the investigation, detailed information about the actors involved in the series was asked by the police, as a plan to record statements from them too. Additionally, the submission of certain documents, related to ALT Balaji’s operation, has been instructed to the Kapoors.
